check here for reliability data ... Car Reliability Comparisons current Nissan products are not what they used to be. I'd say Toyota or Honda.
I appreciate that, but I have lots of experience with Nissan drivetrains, both new and old. I have no worries whatsoever when it comes to their reliability.
My opinion is that the VQ motor is rock solid. The 4-cylinders not as much. If you get an Altima, get the V-6 and it should be a nice ride for a while. If you don't want to stretch the dollar that much, get an older G37 or a Maxima - which is one of the most reliable vehicles on the road.
+1 for not liking Nissan's CVT, which is what would decide between these two cars for me. I even avoid Altima and Maxima rentals wherever possible because of the CVT, but have had no problems with the Infiniti that I have rented. I've never owned an Infiniti, only Lexus and Acura, for premium Japanese vehicles, but have had a couple of longer term rental Infiniti without issue, save for winter traction with a RWD G37 as it was not AWD.

Altima is slowwwwwww , rickety (from the rental I recently had) , and $7k more.
I'd pick the G37 for sportiness and lux-comfort, especially if it's going to be a DD.
I had an Altima as a rental some weeks ago for over 2 weeks. Taking off, it was incredibly slow. It felt like after 10 seconds passed, it would begin to pick up speed. Occasionally I would wonder if something was wrong with the car. I even got owned by a Buick after the light turned green one day.

There probably was. Altima is one of the fastest in its class.
What's the reliability of the G37? I'd assume pretty good?
Mine was pretty damn reliable up to 180K miles when the front driveshaft randomly fell off at 80MPH
In all seriousness, one of the more reliable cars I've owned, but that's not to say it didn't have minor issues. I'm not sure I'd rank the Altima up there with Infiniti's in terms of reliability. Most I've been in tend to be rattleboxes beyond 150K miles.

The Altima and Maxima peaked a few years ago with interior room and design. The newer ones are way too slopped in the windshield to offer a big feeling cabin. I would search used with Nissan products now.
Its is a troubling trend in the car industry. I will say I drive a Nissan Cube and love the room, yeah its ugly but I don't care comfort real super comfy beats looks.
Let's see, a brand new car for $20k or a five year old 70k mile car for $13k for your daily driver. Easy choice, get the newest you can afford. You'll get full warranty plus a brand new car that should be worry free. Sure, it's less sporty and flashy but it's new. Easy choice.
