The owner offered a car with a warranty, which expires in 2016.
Do I get the warranty, when I buy the car? Or do I need to transfer it to my name?

You need more specific details from seller (how warranty transfer works). The important part.. What warranty?

Based on the info you provided (which was none), the answer would be maybe.

Depends if the warranty in place says it's transferable or not.

If it's a factory warranty, there are usually some forms included in the owner's manual on how to transfer over warranty and contact info. More of a formality than anything as it would be tracked by VIN anyway.

If it's an aftermarket extended warranty there is usually a form to fill out and some require a transfer fee.

That is true, but the typical aftermarket warranty is essentially useless as a result of the weasel clauses that allow those scamming warranty companies to avoid paying claims that are submitted to them.
