Keep in mind that there are two different reasons to have tinting, resulting in a blend of options available.
1) Visible light blockage - where the film blocks visible light. This is done to change the aesthetics of the car, and/or increase security. (IE: people nearby can't see inside the car).
2) IR light blockage - where the film is used to reduce (or nearly eliminate) the heat introduced into the car by sunlight.
You can choose which of the different combinations of the above. For example: I have the nano-ceramic particle type film mentioned earlier and it blocks about 88% of the IR light (heat from sunlight) while only blocking about 15% of the visible light.
I know some people who don't care about the heat, (the ceramic film is a LOT more expensive), so they just get a darker visible tint so their car has more that "limo-look".
