I have a civic 2001, and I recently changed my front speakers. Problem is, the front is very LOW in volume.. I seem to only hear the back! When i try to equalize it and try to put more in the front the sound is horrible.. Like its not enough power going through i find.. it sounds faint... They are good speakers a got! They are JVC 500 wats. I had made sound people in a garage install them for me in the doors. When i told them my concern they said that my head unit (the actual radio) is what is causing the problem. My head unit is from the year 2003 its a pioneer. They said that it can effect the sound quality in the front causing the the speakers in the front to sound low.. What do you think?
There are a lot of speakers out there that sound HORRIBLE when they are underpowered. In your case, you said the JVCs are 500 watts. I'm assuming that is peak power and your head unit probably puts out about 40-50 watts peak power per channel. This means your speakers are severely underpowered. Either swap out the speakers for a different set that more coincides with your head units power, or get an amp to hook up to your JVCs. Even a brand new head unit is not going to put out any crazy amount of power.
Don't even bother. Upgrading door speakers is tossing money out the wind.
If you were a real audiophile, the only way you can have quality sound is to upgrade head unit and have sub installed in the trunk. For Civic, Basslink 2000 would have been an excellent addition. Then you also want to add twitters somewhere, preferably pointing at your face, as high end is very directional. Then you use door speakers only as mid range addition.
That's it. We have 2011 Civic at home, I know what it sounds like. Tincan.
The thing is my old speakers were working really great with the head unit in the front. I showed the speakers to someone and I said I paid 50$ for them on Ebay, someone told me they are knock offs.. JVC are not worth 50$. They said thats why they sound like crap.

You can have top of the line 1000w speakers and they will sound like crap when you have a head unit pushing only 35w to them. You need to look power the speakers appropriately.
Even worse, I pulled several OEM Civic speakers out to be replaced, from various years. They are cheap paper cone ones. With very little excursion. They are not designed to or meant to provide serious sound. It's Civic.
