Off topic, but kudos for avoiding the phrase "to each their own."

What happens when you hit a pothole or go over a speed bump?

Generally the same thing that happens in a normal car. Not much at all. Most of these have air ride and will go over speed bumps at normal height, and rarely hit potholes in a lowered state. When I drove severely lowered cars without air ride, I just drove carefully (like you really should in any car as a bad pothole can damage suspension and wheels/tires in a normal, stock vehicle too. And speed bumps are supposed to be drive over slowly. That's why they are put there.)

My first boss in Nashville had o2 of them pure stock race cars and I helped him to restore it after every race - and wrack it was in. Ballasting was also allowed up to 600 lbs.
When it comes to stanced cars- they don't handle well, at all.

Chopping up the suspension is not an upgrade. I see these guys all the time, chopped up springs and suspension components to the point of very little travel. Wheels just about riding on the fenders. One good bump and the wheels hit the fenders. You'll see a little blue smoke from the tires, at the same time, cutting a grove in the tires. Not to mention the waaay off camber and tire wear. Cant be good on rainy wet roads and tires trying to dissipate water from the tread. But hey, you'll look cool until things go awry.

Some guys have air ride and can raise the cars up. Some guys are hard core and are "static" and ride low all the time "likabawss." They take it slow, at angles, get stuck, crack things, scrape things or just don't go.
