I've owned it 26 years and at the time it was bought the cut off for smog inspection was 25 years old... then it was 30 and now frozen at 1976 and newer.
I own a 1976 Triumph Spitfire with dual carbs and the smog techs are clueless... really.
I think a much better system would be 1996 and newer because these have OBDII and leave the carburetors for the collectors.
How do you answer this question? We would need to base the question on the same car in all 50 states. We have a 2011 Honda Accord and the amount would be different on two different 2011 Honda Accords, based on what two different people paid for the car. Age of the car in California is also a factor. Asking what others pay will not let anyone know what they may pay. We could get a guess but still that is not set in stone.

$40 annually for registration in WA (no safety req.; every-other yr for emissions, most counties have no emission tests)
$42 for life of vehicle if you qualify for collector car. No inspections required.
MT has provisions for lifetime registration. It is no sales tax state, and many attorneys specialize in creating a MT vehicle ownersip LLC for out of state people.

So I can take my 2011 Honda Accord and register it in Washington and it will only be $40 a year?
Initial registration will require title transfer fees
(There are rules regarding how many cars you can move / transfer to WA). IIRC you can bring 2 per resident, w/o triggering WA sales tax. You need to have owned and registered them in another state for at least 60 days.
Nebraska is an expensive state for car ownership. If you buy a new car, you will pay 5.5% sales tax, plus a registration tax based on the value of the vehicle, then some other fees for titling and registration.
If you buy a new car that's $20,000, taxes and fees will be around $1500. Yikes!
After the first registration, the state charges a registration tax based on the original value of the vehicle. You'd pay around $300 to renew the registration on the $20,000 vehicle. Luckily the amount decreases every year.
