On your Xterra, certain model years had issues with the in-radiator transmission cooler developing a leak and letting coolant into the transmission. It's pretty common in the DIY crowd to do the cooler bypass on Xterras, Frontiers, and Pathfinders. I have a Frontier, and my neighbor had an Xterra. His leaked, mine hasn't yet.

Some Xterras before 2008 had a problem with the cooler leaking internally and coolant getting into the transmission. This is death on the transmission. You can read the details on one of the Xterra forums.

I did this mod to the Xterra that I had because I was doing extensive towing with it. I also installed a trans temp gauge.

I had a Pontiac wagon years ago where the trans cooler inside the radiator fell off and it pumped trans fluid into the radiator and coolant into the transmission. Both had this nice pink milkshake in them. I fixed the cooler and flushed both the radiator and the transmission several times, but after about a week the trans took a dump and had to be rebuilt.

There are no byproducts of combustion in a transmission. No CO2, no water vapor, no unburned gasoline or diesel.

water still get into the transmission when it cools, or did you think the transmission was sealed system?

Uh, most new transmissions ARE sealed systems...

Haven't you embarrassed yourself enough in this thread yet?

no they are not, they all have a vent to bleed off pressure build up in the transmission.

You really have no clue about modern transmissions. Go educate yourself and stop spreading misinformation.

have you forgotten you high school chemistry already? remember what happens when you increase the temperature of something? it expands. if there is no room for that expansion, you get leaks through the seals. thus NO TRANSMISSION CAN BE COMPLETELY SEALED. there has to be a vent in the system, and it is through that vent that moisture can enter the system.
