i am normally a toyota lexus guy since they have been the cheapest and most reliable! (i have a personal mechanic to do the work)
so sadly my 2 cars are totaled so we are looking at an infiniti SUV. ive heard they are super reliable and go very strong. I understand all cars need maintenance and wear and tear which is ok.
but as far as engine and transmission goes, are they pretty solid?
my current lexus (totaled now from hail) has 200,000 miles with no issues on motor or tranny - just normal wear and tear. Hoping the infiniti does the same (and years are ranging 2004 - 2009. looking to buy used
I had an Infiniti QX4 (lease) or whatever the smaller of their SUVs was called at the time, 2004 or so. Had ZERO problems with it and service was excellent. Only reason I haven't leased one again is I didn't like the new rounded styling of the FX models.
Before I bought my new Lexus last month, I did look at the Infiniti. They are fine cars but dollar for dollar Lexus has a higher brand name recognition. I am sure somebody will warn you of the dreaded CVT soon. Not to worry. My son bought a brand new Altima a few months ago, which I have driven extensively. None of the horror stories I had read about CVT is true.
Only the newest Infiniti's are getting the CVT. The year range the OP specified is still using a transmission. 7 spd IIRC.
I had a G35x I bought new in 2006. I drove it to almost 180K miles just doing regular maintenance and wear&tear type items. No major repairs. I'd still be driving it if the driveshaft didn't fall out on me at 80MPH earlier this summer. Was a pretty solid car.
Are you referring to the QX60 or QX80? I would imagine the reliability would be different between the two since the 60 has a CVT and the 80 doesn't.
I had a G35x too (for 8 years) and it was pretty reliable. Not Toyota reliable, but it was probably better than American iron.
EDIT: Forget my comment, I just noticed the OPs range. I can't comment on the SUVs but my G35 was a 2004 and it was ok. Used cars are a crapshoot anyway, especially one that is 10+ years old. I would only consider it with a full service history.
