I once had a VW/Audi dealership charge me $200 for an oil change and swapping my winter/summer wheels. I had ignored the red flag on the way in when they hemmed and hawed about how much it would be and never gave me a number. I waited 2+ hours for 5 minutes of work. I hit the roof when they presented me with the bill. I'd had the same service done at easily a half dozen VW dealerships for less than half that and didn't have to die of old age in the waiting room. They comped me the tire rotation fee so it was "only" $120.00 for 4 quarts of 5w40 Castrol 504.00 oil and a filter. No way I'd ever buy a car there and no way in the world they would ever see my service business.
I have a 6-cylinder Outback. I've had 3 oil changes at the dealership. I print the coupon on their web site and pay about $65.00 for 7 quarts of Mobil 1 5w30 and a filter. They've had recalls and warranty work each time it was in. I see no reason not to give them the business at that price point. 7 quarts of Mobil 1 is $35.00 at Walmart. The filter and crush gasket are $5+. I don't have to mess with disposing of the oil. $25.00 seems like a completely reasonable labor fee on top of the materials. I do my own air filter and cabin air filters but I'll let them do the brake flush since they quoted me a sub-$100 price for it.
$416 for an oil change is outrageous unless they're throwing in sex with a supermodel.
Mod cut: Quoted post deleted.
I suspect the oil change was included in the manufacturer's suggested "2000 mile checkup". The $416 price tag sounds about right for that. His friend was probably stretching the facts to make himself look like a poor victim.

What vehicle require a 2K checkup that isn't complimentary?
Not saying that a dealership isn't going to try to put a fast one on a car owner but they don't do it right away. Still don't know what vehicle we are talking about here but higher end vehicle has SA assigned to a customer. That SA isn't looking for long term service if they try to pull a $400+ for oil change after 2K on a vehicle.
Guys, if you read the op, he says that the friend bought the car with 2000 miles on it.
He didn't say that the car was taken for an oil change at 2,000 miles. He said that when it was taken for an oil change, it cost $416.
I have an SL Mercedes. A service at year 1 (includes oil change) was $250. Depending on where you live, I can see three or four hundred dollars.
I, and most of us, are reading it as he bought it new, put on the miles and then took for the oil change, likely for the 6 months.
The European new vehicle was taken to the new car selling dealership for the first oil change.
I only got the front page pdf to me.
It states:
Total Labor 192.65
Total Parts 177.30
Total Sublet 0.00
Total G.O.G 0.00
Total Misc Chg 19.27
Total Misc Disc 0.00
Total Tax 23.35
Total Invoice 412.57
(not the 416.00 mentioned in title post - I forgot the exact numbers as I didn't have invoice in front of me at time of original posting)
He purchased the vehicle new. Vehicle has just over 2,000 miles on odometer. Actually, the invoice states 2,086 miles on odometer. He has had vehicle over 6 months.
As I stated in original post the vehicle was taken to dealership for the first oil change.
This vehicle is still under manufacturers warranty.

So still no mention of make/model. Nobody is asking for VIN. Is this US/Europe? Planet Earth or Mars?
I'm certain you won't "out" your friend by giving us more to go on. Unless it's a model where only 10 were built
Because the post is about expensive European vehicles.
Not brand specific.
If I mentioned this well known brand the posting would go off to brand X is better then Brand Y and brand Z is better then brand Y.
The vehicle is not an exotic as Ferrari or Rolls Royce.
