For all vehicles manufactured by Bayerische Motoren Werke AG (hereinafter all such vehicles are, collectively, "BMW(s)"), scheduled maintenance is included for the duration of the factory warranty for such BMW; provided, however, that the inclusion of such maintenance is not, for purposes of this post, "free of charge," and it is understood and acknowledged that such maintenance is included in the retail cost of the BMW, as calculated by Bayerische Motoren Werke AG and factored into the suggested retail pricing of each such BMW; further provided, however, that similarly equipped and priced vehicles that are in direct competition with BMWs (including without limitation vehicles manufactured by Mercedes Benz, a division of Daimler AG) explicitly do not include scheduled maintenance without additional charges as a feature of ownership and/or lessorship of the vehicle, and owners and/or lessors of BMWs may consider such inclusion of scheduled maintenance a perquisite of owning and/or leasing a BMW. In addition, the intent and purpose of this post, and preceding posts of a similar nature, are solely for the purposes of addressing claims and/or supposition by previous commentators that the vehicle as posited in the original post by the original author commencing this string of related commentary may be a BMW, as such previous commentators were positing various makes and models of BMWs that the original poster may have been referring to, without taking into consideration that scheduled maintenance on a BMW, subject to the foregoing acknowledgements and considerations, is not charged to the owner or lessor of the BMW.
Or, to put it more succinctly, BMW maintenance is free for the duration of the factory warranty.

A more accurate way to phrase it is...BMW maintenance, for the duration of the factory warranty, is included in the purchase price. Just because you have no further out of pocket costs doesn't mean it's free. Just like that "free" initial attorney consultation isn't really free. You may not be billed for it, but that hourly billing rate has it factored in.

Anyways, what are people's guesses on what the OP vehicle is? Porsche has been ruled out, 6 cylinder SUV European needing oil change after 2k miles. Range Rover? Audi Q5? Volvo X90?

Well the above statement is actually false for new BMW sold after 7/2014 in the United States. Factory warranty is transferable while the maintenance program is not. There was a drastic change for 2017 model as it went from 4/48 to 3/36. 12K less may not sound like a big deal but that's where some of the bigger previously included service is now no long included.

Well it's probably a Mercedes. Original poster eluded to high cost repair with high cost repair for the same neighbor in the past.

...and then you get to absorb the massive depreciation on a car that nobody wants because of (a) the high cost of maintenance, (b) frequency of need for maintenance because of the inadequacy of the factory maintenance (17K oil change on turbo engines). Unless you were smart enough to buy either an M3 or an extended warranty.
It is true - check the resale value of a 5 YO Infiniti or Lexus (which cost less than BMW/MER/Audi when new).
May have been the dealer ripping me off, but those are the prices I paid for replacements on a 750. I traded it in for a domestic car when it needed brakes.
You pay for everything. I asked the dealer what the cost of my Durango would be without the four "free" oil changes? He lowered the price by a hundred bucks. I took the deal. The 2014 vehicle now has 105000 miles on it using Napa 5W20 synthetic oil. Filter changes every 7500 miles and full oil change every 22500 mi.
Once had a boat with a Cummins 8.3L engine that the marina wanted to charge us $450 for an oil & fuel filter change. I had the same engine in my Kenworth which cost me $200 from the truck shop. So, I trailered the boat there and they did it for the same money.
Not many people speak of this. The oil generally doesn't have to be replaced nearly as often as the filter.
