Why are the reactions afterward so upbeat? I would have expected the people that dove out of the way with children in particular to have a few less than kind words for the driver.

Because people that line the exits like that are EXPECTING something like this and are encouraging it. So even if they got narrowly missed, they got the show they were looking for.

So stupid.

Powerful cars are more dangerous than a handgun. It is equivalent to a assault shotgun. I never know why people would trust amateurs trying to show off. I never stand close even for just a burn out.
