I have been seeing these aftermarket android auto units for under $250, wondering how good/reliable they are. I was thinking of putting one in my old truck but I am worried it will just be a theft magnet. My truck was broken into once about 10 years ago, they ripped out the dash and took the stereo, amp and speakers. And this was in a very upscale neighborhood. After that bad experience I am always wary. Right now my stereo has a detachable faceplate which I always remove, however these units do not.

Can something so cheap be any good? It even has GPS.

There are units by Kenwood and Pioneer but they are not that good and are ridiculously priced (> $700)

Well, as anything from China - it's a toss. Russia is completely indulged in that market via Aliexpress so..

When you get one, simply do this:

Car stereo stock radio fake-out

thanks, unfortunately I swapped the original stereo in this truck aeons ago and threw it in the trash where it rightfully belonged, I upgraded the music system a week after I bought the truck because it came with 50 cent chinese speakers which were an abomination to listen to.... swapped them out with Kenwood eXcelon 3 ways.

My deck is a Kenwood eXcelon unit as well and paired with a Bazooka sub, which I am extremely happy with...however I was thinking Android auto would be nice.

I wouldn't mind buying this one: it's a Kenwood eXcelon refurb at a reasonable price but I still don't want a $500 deck to be stolen and I don't have the original stereo to make the fake plate. Need another idea.

I know. I had my cars broken in twice, every time they went for stereo.
There are all kinds of fake face plates though

Otherwise, I am huge fan of Pioneer head units. Every one I had aced it.

the problem is that if you do an internet search the fake faceplates all look the same rather than being the same as the factory look for a particular model, this means it's a dead giveaway that it's a fake faceplate which is even worse...now the thief definitely knows there is something valuable underneath there.
