I have vehicles that have occasional need, but outside of those that are sentimental and/or of collector value, I do not keep vehicles that don't serve a purpose. However, I usually end up donating a good running vehicle, or giving it to someone who needs it, as opposed to selling/trading.

We don't technically need my wife's car. She is a homemaker and rarely ventures out on her own. Rare enough that it would be cheaper just to rent a car for those few days a month. But we tried to compromise on one car for a couple years, and the frequent "could you stop and get X on your way home" burned me out. When I was done for the day I just wanted to go directly home. Plus even if she didn't need to go anywhere she felt trapped when there was no car there. So our 2nd car is more about emotional and marital happiness than it is actual need.
Yes. I have a 1987 Trans Am GTA that I have sunk a lot of money into, and it just sits in the garage taking up space. I seldom drive it, and when I went to start it a few days ago I discovered the fuel pump has now gone out. If I sold it I might get $3k for it, when I know I've spent over $10k fixing it up.
Yeah but you have a 87 GTA. I'm assuming it's not the Turbo 3.8 because then I'll have to come and do a GTA on your GTA.
yes i agree. I got an 96 explorer in mint shape with only 96k miles, but value is less than a 1000 so it just sits in the driveway, maybe couple hundred miles per year
You'll get way more than that. I sold a 95 GMC flawless condition 124k for $2500 without even trying. I probably could of gotten 1-1200 more if I held out but the people that bought it were getting it for their young daughter, and my wife liked the kid you can guess that my wife is a softie so we did 2500. I was only asking 2700. And I had a list of calls. Granted most were jerkoff "I'll give you 1k for it" calls which were promptly told no thanks and hung up on.
One thing I despise is someone trying to make a deal without actually seeing what they're buying.
We could probably get by without having a truck but it comes in handy when I need to haul something and we use it for camping to bring firewood. I only put on 2000 miles or so a year and don't drive it at all in the winter. 2001 F150 4X4 Lariat SuperCab with 23,000 miles like new condition.

Hate to part with it but have had many offers
Sounds like a great truck... and well equipped.
I just gave my nephew my 1996 F150 SuperCab 4wd... not a ding in the bed or body and looks sharp... bought it from a guy that bought it new as a retirement present to himself to go fishing... 124k miles.
My nephew was crazy about it so I gave to him for his 15th birthday...

My truck had similar history. Older gentleman bought it new to pull small fishing boat and health failed over the years and had to go into a home and his wife sold the truck.
Yup got a sports car that I can't say I need. I drive it only on the weekend..
