hey all, was wondering if anyone tried the general grabber 2 - studdable on snow and ice?

General*Grabber AT 2

got a bunch of good reviews and reviews mention they do very well in the snow. I take my 4x4 jeep throught he mountains with studded snow tires and they are VERY GOOD. almost impossible to spin out; but now I need my truck. Since I am going through large cliff offs, I def need studs.

so any review on the grabber 2? is it very grippy on the snow?

They have a AT tread pattern and lots of siping. They should work well. We had a a set of BFGoodrich trail TA on a work truck that were a very similar pattern. Worked well in inclement weather rain ice snow

My experience with AT tires is like any tire, they're mostly crap on ice, but usually great in the snow. I've used both the Bridgestone Revo (1st gen) and the Goodyear AT Adventures - I prefer the Goodyears myself. Quiet on the road and unstoppable so far in the snow. I usually try to avoid ice at all costs though. I just bought another set of the GY's for my Jeep - I had a set on the last Jeep and my current one came from the factory with them, I wound up putting 4 new ones on when I picked up a bolt in one. Bought 3, got 1 free.

I've had the General AT2's, the stock BFG AT tires, and now Cooper A/T3's on my Nissan Frontier. I live in WI, so see plenty of snow. Not as much ice. The General's worked fine, but I do like the Cooper's a bit more. I've found the snow traction to be better (subjective) but the tread wear has definitely been much better than the AT2's.

However - I wouldn't be scared of the AT2's, especially since you plan to stud them. They were solid tires for me.

The tread is very similar to the Firestone Destination ATs on my 4x4 Ranger. It does very well on light or even deep snow, but not so good on ice. You should be fine with studs on them.

I use the Cooper tires exclusively on my 3 vehicles.

I had them on a truck (4x4). they were very good general tires. Did ok but not great in snow better in mud, terrible on ice. I did not have them studded. Studded tires are illegal here. they were somewhat less noisy than other tires I had on that truck. Nosiey makes a big difference if you drive much on highways.

Tires I have now are both quieter and better in snow. I forget what they are. I will try to remember to look when I go home.

I would suggest having a look at Hankook I-Pikes. The best unstudded tire I've ever experienced on ice and in snow, and wear like iron to boot.
