'Today, Tesla claims that its electric sedan has about 55% American- and Canadian-made content. But the vehicle is about to get an American-made boost.

After the Gigafactory is built, and thanks to Tesla’s proposed efforts to source Gigafactory materials from the U.S., about 90% of Model S content could come from the U.S — a figure that would beat out any other vehicle sold in the Land of the Free.'

And at only 2-3x the price. When a sub $35k (Mustang GT price) Tesla can make the same claim it will be a valid comparison.

people have notoriously short memories.

the current low gas prices have them fawning over pickups and sports cars.

When gas prices come back up, there will be more interest in Tesla automobiles.

Their solar home roofs appeal to me and the notion that they will be competitively priced to standard roof tiles with double the lifespan and Tesla WILL kick start a new paradigm of decentralized electricity generation. I feel so strongly about it that I've decided to buy some shares of TSLA for the long haul. They can become the next google.

They're much more likely to go bankrupt and have another automaker pick up the scraps.
IMO, Tesla and Jeep are the brands most likely to outlive their parents.

Because of the huge domestic supply now being produced in the US and Canada I wouldn't go betting the farm on that. This is what a steady and reliable supply of domestically produced fuel looks like. Fracking started around 2008.

Google hasn't required about 5 billion in government subsides to prop up their business. If you look at his solar company for example we are effectively subsidizing solar panel production in China....

I have NO desire to buy and drive a vehicle that costs $75-$110K!

Tesla has not been out long enough to determine if they are reliable or not. Wait a few years and many more miles before you can see that.

There is plenty of reliability data... going on five years worth.
Some cars have "don't buy the first year" issues. Teslas have "don't buy the 5th year" issues.
They haven't gotten any better. This is a car you dump when the warranty's up.

I think I'd rather have an out of warranty Rolls-Royce and Ferrari. Mercedes-Benz, definitely... done that.
At least you have some options when it comes to repairing them.
With a Tesla, they got you by the short n curlies.
You will pay whatever exorbitant sum they ask and there's not a thing you can do about it.

Eventually Tesla will have to improve performance and quality because the other car mfgs will provide competition and lower priced models. Even BMW, Audi, M-B, Porsche will bring competition.
