Thanks for suggestions for my threads.

Can anyone can recommend a good mechanic in the Maryland, DC metropolitan area? I have Toyota car (1999 Camry), and I currently take them to Glen Burnie Toyota for major repairs ONLY. I'm having Valve Cover leak, Power Window regulator issue.

I know some mechanics work in dealerships do side work. I am not sure, how to get them. Dealership is not allowing to talk with mechanic , who work on my car.

I need these repairs done, but do not want the dealer to work on it because of the inflated expense.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for sharing.

I actually just had to replace the valve cover gasket in my wife's old car recently because I happened to open the hood and notice the massive oil leak it left all over the place. Since that car is a 2003, the engine is a bit different (2.4L vs your 2.2, I assume, if you don't have a V6). I was able to do everything with a ratchet, 10mm socket, a pair of plyers, a screwdriver, and a bit of brake cleaner to clean the areas where the gasket is inserted into the valve cover.

The only thing I would be careful of in your case is making sure that the spark plug wires all go back in the correct order. Other than that, its not a hard job. I've done valve cover gaskets on different cars and this was pretty easy. For things that are more complicated to handle, I take my car to Hollenshade's in Towson. But I'm sure, for a smaller job like this, several places in your area could do it for cheap. You'll probably get billed for an hour of labor.

My Mechanic on Liberty Road in Randallstown is a fair shop, as is Stirn's Garage on Dogwood Road in the Woodlawn area.
