I purshased a new car from dealership around 4 weeks ago with permanent license plate in illinois ,but still didn't get the title by mail .Called DMV and they didn't receive paperworks from dealership regarding the title, still showing pending to them.
How long does it take to get the title ?Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Is the car financed? Or did you pay the Dealer in full? You get the Title when the car is completely paid for....i am confused about your circumstance. Or perhaps about the paper trail.

My state is slow. It takes them 6 weeks sometimes to get me a title. However if the DMV says they dont have the paperwork yet is a bit of a concern. Probably the dealer sold you the car before they had the title. Call them and ask what the deal is. Not quite panic time yet...but getting close.

I had the same issue with a car purchased cash out of state. The dealer was great to work with. They sent me an updated 30 day tag while they waited for the title to come through their office. It took close to 50 days for me to get the title and new plate.
Stay in touch with the dealer.

In my state it takes many weeks.

The DMV is understaffed and underpaid. We get a new governor in that promised to cut waste, fraud, and abuse.
Then each state department is told to cut 10% of the departments budget. They don't cut from the top. They cut from the bottom.

Probably best in the future to ask new car dealership for a copy of the Certificate or Origin - the document used to make the first title. Keep it in a safe place. In case anything gets lost. And verify that the VIN number matches your car.

Four weeks doesn't seem like that long in Illinois. When I lived there - granted, it's been a few years - six weeks was typical.

It was quite shock when I moved to Iowa where they print the titles right in the office when you register the vehicle.
