It's not what "I consider." It's what it is. I didn't decide to classify it as that. Go ask Lexus. Or go ask any rental company. Much like the Avalon, it's a full-size car. Cars are classified by combined passenger and cargo volume. The ES has more rear legroom than the LS (quite a bit more, actually.) The LS being a little bit longer does not make the ES any less of a full-size car.

to be fair, the C300 was redesigned and C300 was always a volume game with Benz to keep their perch.

The problem is comparing two cars with two different mission statements.

One car is an entry level RWD sport sedan that is going after the BMW 3 series as its benchmark. So its suspension is tuned a bit harder and it gives up content to save weight to be nimble and still offer a budget entry level luxury experience.

The other is a tarted up Camry/Avalon with FWD designed for blue hairs and people who just want a cushy ride and legroom and the only turns they worry about are the ones in the Costco parking lot.

Congrats on owning two nice luxury cars!
same here.

The E class MB is best value family sedan on the market, especially with the diesel engine option.

OP makes it sound like Lexus makes better cars than MB...and would be a very wrong statement.

While Lexus is one of the very few that can compete in the entrance market of luxury, there is nothing but European manufacturers in full luxury class.

The title is, verbatim, "On C300 vs. E350: there's no contest." But I think the E350 part is a typo.
I meant to say ES 350.

I think OP was comparing two cars with similar MSRP (Starting around $39K)

better is a relative term. I have both euro & Japanese car. They are very different. You have to spend quite a lot...and I really mean quite a lot to get the cutting edge bells & whistles of what you call luxury. The strip down Benz or BMW are a bit bleh.
