I am considering purchasing a new 2017 Ford Explorer. I could be open to other brands but I want nothing smaller then an Explorer. As an example I would not consider an Escape or Toyota Rav4 as they are to small.

Your experiences and comments welcome.

Thanks

I drove a brand new loaded 2016 to/from NY to Fort Lauderdale (over 2600 miles total) It was as comfortable as hell to drive and had all the bells and whistles that made it a pleasure to drive. My only pause would be it's predicted reliability and that it gave woefully bad gas mileage. Thankfully gas was cheap cause we didn't pass a gas station it didn't like.

I am sitting here trying to understand the wisdom of that sentence?

OP, it's a Ford. If you lease for two years, three years, and get a new car - sure, buy whatever you can afford and pleases you.
If you were to BUY the car and keep it - RUN!

What makes you say run? Do you have anything other than anecdotal information?

Thanks

Gas mileage is not of interest to me.
Thanks

John, since I am a Ford owner my opinion would be biased just like a Ford hater would also be biased.

Pay no attention to either one.

Buy what you lke.

We have a 2016 Explorer V6 and it's probably the best value in it's class. Extremely comfortable ride, we travel cross country 2x annually and it's a pleasure to drive. Gas mileage is so so 18-22 mpg. Too many bells and whistles to learn, some we use some not necessary. Everything is electronic. Brakes stop on a dime, give change back. Good music sound system.

What model are you looking at?
XLT, SPORT, LIMITED,PLATINUM?
V6, 4 cyl, Twin Turbo Ecoboost?
AWD FWD?

The sport has the same running gear as the Platinum. The Platinum is the top of the line. The Sport is about 7500 bucks cheaper than the Platinum. We rented one because we are looking at getting something else within the year. We rented a 2016 Sport. For the price these things cost I wasn't overly impressed with Fords offering. The passenger side door panel was misaligned with the dash. Not a lot but enough that it's noticeable. The driver side footwell intruded in the cabin. I have big feet and wear boots. The door sill protrudes so you need to step way out. If you have short legs (I don't but my wife is height challenged) the entry/egress requires a wide step out (wife's opinion)
The car does have a ton of power and it was comfortable. The center console was a bit too low and not in line with the door arm rest (which was wide and at the comfortable height) but the seats had no fold out arm rests. So your right and left elbows weren't aligned. My right arm/hand sort of hung there with nothing to rest it on unless I slightly leaned right.
For what that thing stickers at there shouldn't be any misaligned panels or protruding wheel wells. For long trips the wheel well drove me nuts. The dash had a lot of info. SYNC was easy to use.
And I'm a Ford guy. unless you're looking at the twin turbo AWD and that's if you gotta have a go fast imo there are other options that have more value for that price range.

I have a 2016 Explorer. I switched the the Explorer from a $90K BMW, and I like the Explorer better.

The road noise is a bit louder than I'd like, but everything else if fantastic. I hate most seat now days, because they make you have bad posture by having to roll your back. Explorer still allows you to sit with good posture and not have to hunch your shoulders.

I haven't had any issues with it, and the Sync is easy to use once you get used to it. I wish it had an option to remote start with an app (might have that on the 2017 but not mine).

Your gas mileage will be less than the sticker says. I get 12-16 MPG, and I had a 2015 that got that MPG as well. I think the sticker says 20. I've never seen 20.

The gas tank is stupid small. I get 250-280 miles per tank. I am CONSTANTLY at the gas station. It's a total fail. But, I plan to stay with Explorer for my next car as well, despite this factor. This is my biggest and only legit complaint about it.
