I've noticed the past couple of months that sales of mid sized sedans are down across the board. Toyota Camry had been the top selling non truck for over a decade but in Jan '17 into last fall was being heftily outsold by a number of small SUVs. Note the bad sales over 2016 for all mid sized sedans. Do you think the American market is turning away from mid sized sedans like it did on large cars?

Yes.

Women want CUVs and they drive the majority of buying decisions. Men think they drive the decisions, but they don't.

Women buy more new cars than men: 60% of all new vehicles are purchased by women.
Women have some degree of influence on 85% of all vehicle purchases.

Sorry dudes!!

Given my previous experience selling cars, I would agree with this.

That interesting because I like hatchbacks / SUVs but the women I've been already all like a truck to put their purse in.

SUVs are more practical, it's much easier to load groceries in the back and you can keep them cool with the a/c, and if you're buying something bulky in a big box you don't have to worry if it'll fit into the trunk. Also, traveling with pets is easier, since a pet crate can easily go in the back.

I think the luxury mid size sedans are fine but the camry's, accords, and mazda sedans of the world are at risk.

Yes. Crossovers will continue to gain ground. People...or more specifically women want to sit up and see out over traffic. It gives the confidence. Plus for older folks, crossovers offer chair height seating to slide into so they don't have to drop down into a car or climb up into a traditional SUV. Now, what happens when we are all driving tall crossovers and thereare no more cars to look out over because all the automakers have abandoned them due to low sales?

Yep same with trucks. It's a height war. Eventually everyone will be driving monster trucks if this keeps up heh.

I'm sticking with hatchbacks. The perfect vehicle imo. A crossover is usually just a lifted hatchback with worse handling and mpg.

Gas prices go down, SUV sales go up.

Wife had zero to do with my decision to get a CUV. And I didn't buy it because I am old.
I have always owned hatchbacks. I simply wanted a bigger one with a roomier back seat.
There's a dearth of hatchbacks out there, none have a very roomy backseat.
