Now, I am sure there are some that would say "no," however... If you have an SUV or other unassuming vehicle that can do this, would that then lend creedence to you having a "fast" car?

Not in terms of a standing mile..
Not in terms of a quarter mile (or an eigth of a mile..)
Not in terms of top speed in a straight line (highest hp usually wins)

I'm talking about everyday driving, stop-light "races" where dude with a Camry can get the jump on "guy in a Jeep" and whoever is the fastest earns the cutting off... it has been said the fastest cars are made right now... what were the 0-60 times of exotic 90s supercars with big V-12 engines...

** is 0-60 in "6" seconds fast? When do we start calling a car "fast." For an everyday, regular car..

Not even in the slightest, unless we're talking 1954.

8.2 seconds? no that is not fast. Not even for an SUV.

I no longer consider everything under 6 seconds fast. Used to but now too many cars and even pick up trucks are there. Under 5 seconds is fast. Under 6 seconds is respectable. Over 7 seconds is tolerable. Over 8 is doggy.

Some vehicles are over 10 however if you get out and push, you can improve that somewhat.

FAST is relative, Ollie . . .

Simple answer to your question is NO unless you are a "Little Old Lady heading to the Piggly Wiggly."

That is another aspect you touched on... in a car with a fresh tune, maybe not as much weight, maybe some thin oil, maybe some premium gas, maybe some new-ish tires not ones you hope don't pop from wear, and really getting on it, again, maybe fresh off a water through the intake cleaning a fresh state of tune... sometimes the car can work harder and have a GREAT (*faster) run, as 0-60 1. Varies slightly every time and 2. Is really just a measure of how much you floor it, and how well your engine and trans work together each pass.

How fast is a 1998 "Niner" (Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9L V8) Jeep, for example. ? Vs a regular Laredo 4.0 ... Grand Cherokees had 4.0 at one point..

0-60 Times | Find 0 to 60 & Quarter Mile Times Car Specs

What varies 0-60 the most would be heat-soak from repeated attempts.

It's all relative. Fast for what? Merging on an on-ramp? It's fine, although it's getting on a bit since even the "regular" cars are starting to dip below 7 seconds now. Winning a pointless drag race from a red light? It's slow, but who cares?

when someone asks how "fast " something is that to me is asking can you do 100 mph or 300 mph .. my toyota corolla will go over 100 mph in a bout a minute or two .. my 429 mustang will barely reach 100 but will do it in 8.5 seconds .. . so both are " fast " but the mustang is " Quick " .. is 0 to 60 in 8.2 quick ? .. no ...
