We put on low miles relatively speaking on our two vehicles: 2008 crv, 2016 mdx. Both cars have the oil life indicator which could take a year or over a year for it to reach under 20%

The question then is, if i don't reach 5,000 or 7,500 miles in 6 months, how many months should i go before i change the oil. I've been using conventional in the crv and ow20 in the mdx. Should i go 12 months? 10 months? 6 months?

The cars are driven 75% city, 25% highway.

Every six months used to be the standard for cars that didn't hit the mileage number. Oil changes are what? Fifty dollars or so max? I paid $33 for one on Mrs. NBP's Forester a couple days ago, which was a 5000 mile interval.

I just went 10 months on my 2004 Honda Civic, without any problems. I think that's the longest I have ever gone. Normally I'm due about every eight months. I get it done at the local Honda dealership. They don't even recommend a date for it, just the miles. The only problem I noticed, was I ran out of windshield washer fluid, about three weeks before I took it in. I'm not used to filling that up myself, so I just let it go. I guess if I go that long again, I will have to plan on buying some windshield washer fluid, and filling that up myself.

Every six months. Period.

Just because someone goes beyond the six months and no current engine problems does not make it right.

Damage is done to engine slowly over time with lousy oil. It's your money and your vehicle.

Yeah even just sitting your oil degrades over time. Stick to the 6 month or 1 year interval that is specified in your manual.

I would go no more than 1 year. If you hit the mileage before that, then get it changed.

I go 6 months, used to go a 3 times a year but we are driving less and the cars our garage queens. I went in one time to my regular indi and he said the oil was not dirty and looked practically new and wouldn't change it.

Just verified in 2 GM owners manuals, my 2013 Silverado, and my 2012 Enclave. Both say at least once a year. The oil in my truck has been n there since last May, and will most likely get changed next week, due to mileage. The owners manual for my Mustang does not give a "time", just mileage.

Our dealer, with a vested interest, has told us on two cars that 10,000 miles or one year is the maximum, otherwise when the car tells us with the oil change due light.

I don't put enough miles on my cars to go by the mileage rule so I change the oil on my older car 2001 mustang(uses conventional oil) every 3 months and on the 2011(synthetic oil) car every 6 months.
