Electric cars are about as exciting as a refrigerator.
Some of the fastest production cars are EVs.
The new ones that are coming out have a lot of range, yet are still sub-7 second cars.
They might be rather expensive new, but pre-owned they're not.
Being able to buy a fast car that gets far better mileage than the most frugal econobox is exciting to me.
Some EVs look pretty good, too.

A 9 or 10 speed or DCT transmission isn't added complexity?
Volts use a 1-speed, about as simple as it gets. When you never shift, there are no shift quality issues, either.
I wouldn't use any gasoline at all unless I went on a trip.
Then I can fill it up just like any other car, no long waits at charging stations required.
I call these things real gains, as is the 294 lb/ft of instant torque.
And, if there are no Teslas registered in the state, it pretty much stands to reason those charging stations are for those out of state tourists who own one and visit.
The assault on electric cars for me and I am sure millions of others is because as a lifetime hot rodder and drag racing attender the sound of the engine going thru the gears as the car accelerates signifies power. This is tradition that has been from the beginning and we like it, electric cars are a assault on it.
Just cruising around in day to day driving in a cool car is a source of great pride to many many and has always been.
electric cars ain't it.

I have a plug in Hybrid. I also have a 1956 Pontiac drag car. I've not seen anyone arguing for you to not drive your "cool" car. As noted though, while no, they do not have sound, electric cars are some of the fastest going.

I have a friend, granted he is retired so he doesn't have a commute like some. On his current fill up he has gone 650 miles and used .4 gallons of gas. (as of last Thursday)

There were also predictions that we'd have flying cars and the Cubs would win the World Series.
You are correct. I'll be 96 when it happens so I don't know how much it will impact me. But, here's the thing, I can see those states, especially California and Maryland, enforcing it.
