How often do you need to do this trip? If not too often, maybe just rent a van or mini-van when needed.

Keep your current vehicle and rent for those longer trips.

Sorry, Mitch - too quick on the trigger! But yes, two votes for renting - lots cheaper than getting either a new car or a minivan if you truly don't need all that space for other day-to-day purposes.

I see this all the time - some guy driving alone to work in a big 4-door boat, ask why the big car, and "well my parents visit once a year, so I need the room then" -

Buy a Miata to drive to work, and rent a boat that one week a year!
