I did a test drive on A8, not impressed with the "drivability".

What I've learned is that it's all pretty much the same across any brand, and the "fancier" the badge = the more expensive it is for no real reason. I call it the "ego tax", and Lexus certainly has an ego.
It's also a location tax, my Porsche service advisor (whom I'm good friends with outside of the dealership) tells me labor and parts costs of Beverly Hills dealer, and it's way the f*** higher then us. Actually my dealer is within a large dealer group, and the labor rate is less then a Ford dealer near by within the network. I also can supply all my own parts, even the parts guy tells me to go get it elsewhere on some things. It's all about being a decent person to get some perks.

If I had only those two choices, I would go with Audi.

Lexus doesn't even bother to try to disguise the fact that the LX is a Toyota Land Cruiser. It's embarrassing.

I have a ES350 '09 with 38 K and have been happy with it. Yes, it is not a fun car but I really enjoy the MPG that I get and the ease which the 3.5 6 cyl gives. Also, luxury features are nice. I have had 5 speed Accords which were more engaging. I decided to go with Lexus this time as I got used to NOT sitting in the dealer or mechanic waiting room which I did with a Volvo that was fine for a couple years and then everything went south. IF I did consider a Euro car, it would be a BMW 5 series or MB E class and then it would be a lease or certainly not plan on holding on to it as long as I plan to hold onto this Lexus. However, I am allergic to any kind of payments whether lease or purchase. LOL

Actually Audi has very little in common parts with VW, especially from A6 and up.

The Golf/Jetta are pretty fun cars to drive.

You only live once: might as well enjoy life. If you can afford higher maintenance costs pick the Audi.
