I have financed used and new cars. I have also leased my last three commuter rides. I am currently paying 339 zero down for a 2015 Altima SV. I have paid, 375 and 350 monthly for the previous Rogues and Altima I leased. I previously paid 475 a month for cars I previously financed. Now I consistently hear coworkers state they are paying 250 a month for Infinity, Acuras, and other vehicles. I am wondering if people exaggerate the deals they really get. Is it like men who say they are 6'2" when they are actually 5'11'' ? Do people often lie about what they are actually paying in your experience.
You can get whatever payment you want with enough money up front. To say your lease payment is $275 means nothing without other information.
A good lease is based not upon payment so much but rather residual rates and money factor.
Fiat had some amazing leases on E500's in California where they were losing money on each lease, and something very rare like that would be the exception but for the majority the above applies.
I suppose if you are not allowed very many miles on the lease, it might be possible. if you have to turn the car in two years later with no more that 2500 miles on it, then you will pay for the lease at the end when you pay for excess miles.
All I know is that the dealerships are really pushing that lease option, which means that they have to be making a lot of money by doing it.
I'm always hearing radio ads offering "$99 PER MONTH WITH NO MONEY DOWN FOR A NEW KIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" Then, at the end of the commercial, a guy quickly mumbles a whole bunch of details about the lease. The "fine print" includes things like $2500 down, tax & title extra, and a whole host of other fees.
In the end, there's no secret code to getting a car for half price. There just isn't.
