I removed my window tint film from the passenger side window. Don't want to tint again. Does anyone have any experience/recommendations using the spray on removers for getting rid of the residue on the window? I see a lot of you tube videos using a razor blade but the spray on removers seem easier. Just not sure how well they work.

I just use a razor blade. It's quick and easy

I don't know but I have a truck I want to take the tint off of myself if possible. I've heard hot steam gets it off.

Steam works great! If you don't have a steamer you can use a steam iron just be careful with it and steam the glue. It comes right off after that.

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried the razor blade technique but that did not work in my hands. Took it to a window tint place. They'll remove it for $40 using a steamer. Said it'll take about 1 1/2 hours.

a friend of mine does tint for a living, and he uses steam 95% of the time. there are times when the tint is so old that the film will just come off in bits and pieces. at that point he uses a razor blade and a lot of patience. to get the glue off he soaks it with water and dawn dishwashing liquid, and again uses the razor blade. this step is required even if you steam the tint off the window, as the glue residue tends to remain on the window.

My son un-tinted his entire Civic.
1. Razors do not really work. We tried several different kinds, it gums up and is very hard to use.
2. Steam is OK to remove film but not really the glue. Plus you end with water puddling inside the doors. Or car.
3. GooGone and things of that nature were waste of time and money.

So what really worked? Denaturated alcohol and few rags. That took care of all windows in about an hour.

The razorblade won't work on the rear drefroster so some kind of chemical or liquid alternative is needed. I plan to remove and retint one of my cars where the cheap tint faded.

I was hoping to use wet paper towels or newspaper and spraying it to keep it wet for an hour or 2 to rehydrate the glue.

my friend finds that if you soak the old tint on the back window with ammonia and then cover the inside with large plastic trash bags, and then let the car sit out in the sun for a couple of hours, the old tint and the old glue tends to come off more easily. you also should use fine strand steel wool pads, he uses 0000 steel wool.

WD40. Used it on my sons truck to take off the residue from 10 year old tint.
