Be objective

Taurus

Engine size 3.0 L

Horsepower 155 for the SE, 200 for the SEL, There was no SHO model for 2000

Length 197.6 inches

Weight 3316 pounds

Crown Vic

Engine size 4.6L

Horsepower 200

Length 212 inches

Weight 4057 lbs

There is no reason to keep a 2000 Taurus. If one wants a mid-sized 3300 lb. front wheel drive car any of the numerous current offerings will greatly outperform the 2000 Taurus.

The Crown Vic is an American classic. The comfort, 6 passenger interior space and trunk capacity cannot be duplicated by any current model sedan. However the road handling ability of any current model sedan is much better than the Crown Vic.

I've had a Grand Marquis and a '97 Taurus (I know that's not the date you're asking about), I liked the Taurus better. It had the 24v engine and I literally drove it until it blew up. 200,000+ miles..."found on road dead" my butt.

Edit: I just realized what I posted. Friends, don't drink & CD.

Both have very limited lives due to rust, cheap steel.
The engine and tranny will outlive the body due to tin worms.

there is a reason i no longer have my 98 taurus wagon, and do have my 05 grand marquis.

the merc is bigger, more comfortable, and more fun, for me, to drive, especially since i dont care for front wheel drive.

both engines are solid reliable performers, but more aftermarket equipment is available for the 4.6l.

in the end however, one has to decide for themselves which is better for them. the taurus is a good car, my family has had three of them over the years, just like we have had three grand marquis over the years as well.

That's 2003 and up. 2002 had an aluminum intake crossover instead of plastic, but it was still on the "old" platform.
