Get a vehicle with electronic parking brake. It automatically releases the parking brake when put in gear. If you can drive your present vehicle off with your parking brake engaged, it needs some serious adjustment.

yup- on both the truck (stick)and the car (automatic) neither are new enough to have electronic parking brakes. Just your traditional hand brake parking brake.

Only on a manual. Never understood the point on an automatic.

That's the point of doing it on an automatic

I can't say that I know anyone that does use it. I mean how often do you hear about automatic transmissions in park allowing the car to roll away. More of an exception than the rule.

I have never had the need to use it, where I live it isn't very hilly. If my breaks go out like they have before I down shift which slows the car enough that the weaker breaks can stop the car( would still stop even with out down shifting). Its usually a blown line but you still get a few good stops before the fluid runs out (since half of your breaks are still working) which is planty to find some where to pull over.

It did on my rebuilt transmission but it fixed itself.

I use it mainly when I am at somewhere getting free wifi. I set the brake, tilt the steering wheel down, turn the key to "pre start" then shift to 1 then turn the key off. Then web surf till the battery dies.
