1998 Toyota Land Cruiser. 350k. Runs like new. Every accessory, including the power antenna, is original and works like new. Other than scheduled maintenance, I've replaced the battery, tires, brakes, and a starter. That's it.
A 1991 Ford E 350 one ton van, got it in 1999, with 13,000 miles on it. It had been a computer company show van, that was displayed at trade shows, with a full load of working computer equipment in it.
The computers were removed but the entire interior which was fully carpeted, including the ceiling, was left in it. it had a 2 inch foam insulated interior. Why ? I do not know why ? I do know that I slept in it at minus 35 C and it was warm enough with the heater on low speed . It was also creak and rattle free.
So what did I do with it ? I was contracted to a Canadian based expedite freight company, doing door to door rush shipments, all over Canada and the USA. Get it there as fast as possible, and get a lot of money to so About 3 dollars a mile. Weeks on the road.
Six years later, with 803,00 MILES on that one... I bought another identical Ford E 350 from the same computer company. That one was a 1997 model. The 1991 was sold to a local courier who drove it another 150, 000 miles before the crankshaft on the 351 broke. The 1997 made it to 678,000 MILES before it died.
The secret ? A strict monthly full day of service and a front to tail inspection, and a aggressive "replace it before it breaks ' attitude on my part. I was never stranded on the road, or had to decline a job due to being " out of service ".
Of course about 95 percent of my miles were highway miles.
230K on a 2001 Honda CR-V, before selling it. The clutch lasted 213K and that includes driving on the San Francisco hills. That CR-V is still going strong.
I now have 21K on a Diesel Grand Cherokee that I plan to last for 500K.
I put 80K on my motorcycle before selling it. That was a 1983 BMW R80RT.
Lately I've been adding about 1000 miles a weekend. Keep on truckin'!
This TDI... Is it in America?
Yes. The USA (and Canada) are about the only places you can accumulate so many miles. Not like Britain where it's only 840 miles from Land's End to John o'Groats. If Russia had decent roads, you could really rack up the miles.
