In a wat the Yamaha built SHO motors is much like the Corvette Mercury Marine 5.7L DOHC 32-valve V-8 in the orginal Corvette ZR-1 90's both were amzing engies that neded to be contracted out but where veryt innovated game chaging engies that today finding parts or someone to serivice if one cannot DIY them would be hard or very Expensive.

Exactly. The contracted them to build so many engines for a low volume car and that was it. It was supposedly made to go in a Fiero/MR2 competitor that never got out of the design studio - maybe. Either way the SHO was something they slapped together when the original use never surfaced to satisfy the contract for the engines they had already paid for and it turned into a surprise hit.

Pontiac or Chevrolet I forget made a DOHC V6 engine in the early 90's. It bolts onto a Fiero Transmission so is a popular swap into them.

You are thinking of the GM/Chevy Twindualcam LQ1 3.4L V6 from thd Lumina and Monte Carlo Z34 and Grand Prix GTP/STE.

Pontiac had stopped making their own engines by the early 80s and everything became Chevy branded GM motors by then.
