Remember when the only phone you had, was on the wall at home connected to a cord. We seemed to get along just fine with that.
Remember when for centuries we lived in thatched roof mud huts with outdoor plumbing and no heat in the winter? We seemed to get along just fine for thousands of years like that.
Se how stupid your argument sounds?
Business moves faster now. You want to keep up, you... well, keep up.
Give it a few years and let the north east corrosion work it's magic on those sensors. Better hope you don't nail a pedestrian with it... that's not a law suit you could forward to Toyota as you are still behind the wheel...
Prime example parking aid sensors front and rear. 2-5 years tops out of North East road salt cars and trucks before they corroded and failed completely or had wonky out of calibrated distances leading to backing into objects...
I'd never trust a module or software to drive for me. Ever.
For someone who puts alot of stock in that Toyota system, you surely missed the simple detail of how a cell phone works... they have technology that tracks your speed and location... what? You think they lose service just because you are moving? If it detects you're moving faster than a sprinting pace I picture it to disable the texting feature.
I say do one better make the cars block texts via being blue tooth synced to the phone only to affect the drivers phone. Then what? Buy a pay as you go to text and drive? LOL
Wow, so much misinformation in one post! I don't have all day to explain all of the inaccuracies, but I'll point out the most glaring- you clearly don't realize that there are MILLIONS of people in this country that commute in a moving vehicle but who aren't drivers. Bus, trains, ubers, carpools, etc. Your "simple" solution of using motion to disable texting would disable the phones of these people as well.
And bluetooth? Have you ever used a phone?! Bluetooth can be disabled in about a quarter of a second with one touch of the finger. A texting driver can swipe up, turn off bluetooth, send the text, then turn it back on and all we've done is made roads MORE dangerous by adding a few extra steps.
The last point I'll touch on- 2 years for plastic-encased fully waterproof sensors to "corrode" in the northeast?!?!?!? As someone who lives in the northeast and who has driven cars much older than 2 years, I have to imagine you've simply never visited the region. Cars don't just fall apart from salt.

Your post was very, very, very misinformed.
They should stop the subway every time someone needs to make a call or text. I'm sure they will go over well.
Because we know no one uses their phones for business. Anyone on a phone is just talking about going to the mall.

If they can't figure it out with technology, then prison works if you text and wreck.
Don't have to worry about someone doing something stupid while driving from jail!
My Samsung does that already. It is an app put on our phones by the company i work for. They also provide and pay for the phones, so no one is complaining. There is no need to text while driving. We also have a policy that anyone who texts and wrecks gets fired. Not sure whether that applies to the board members, but most of our policies do (like random drug testing). .
I listened to keynote address yesterday. I like the feature. You can set the phone to allow certain contacts through. If you're a passenger you can adjust the setting.
The feature is a way for Apple to avoid civil liability. When Johnny texter texts and drives and crashes in to the school bus that is unloading children causing a mass fatality crash. It goes to absolve Apple of any civil liability.
You cause a crash because you're texting and you disabled the feature, you'll be hosed.
In the end distracted driving is on par with driving under the influence.
It's worse. I can drive safely under the influence. You cannot drive if you aren't even looking at the road.
Soon, Apple will introduce a new iPhone feature that will do away with that annoying -- and dangerous -- urge to look at a text message while you're driving.
It's basically the "sleep feature" they already have, just for driving.
