I change my own oil but I feel for people that have restrictions due to age, living in an apartment, etc.

Don't need a video to show me how to change my oil, if I wanted to do it. Been doing it for more years than I want to remember; however, I'm not at a place in life where I let others get under there and change the oil; but ONLY at a dealer I can trust or a local shop I can trust. NO five minute oil changes for this guy. I prefer the new oil in the engine not on the ground.

in college all but one of my room mates had changed their own oil except for this one engineering student.

Smart yet clueless pretty much defined his way of working.

He seized his engine that day while changing his oil for the first time. After he eventually got a new engine, the car got stolen. He lost his mind not long after that.

I live in an apartment. I have a garage though. It's a small one car garage that my 05 Ranger XLT barely fits in. I have to back it out a few feet in order to do anything. I've changed brakes, oil, wheel hub. I cannot do anything that would take more than an afternoon or I wouldn't be able to shut my garage overnight though.

Not all complexes allow it, and mine doesn't allow it if you have an open parking spot, but it can be done.

If it's out of warranty, I change my own oil and transmission fluid. I'm way too anal about my vehicles to trust some generic dealer bulk oil from a drum.

I just make sure to buy a vehicle that burns/leaks oil.

That way, I only have to add oil, a quart or so a month.......the oil will always be fresh!

For the past 20+ years I do all my oil changes and most of my auto repair work. Nothing better then pulling the plug and going inside to watch tv or get something to eat while waiting for the oil to drain. I don't have to waste time driving my vehicle to a shop and sitting in a boring waiting room for an hour.

Same here for as little as my dealer charges for a semi synthetic oil change and considering both of my cars are under warranty I let them do it. I have done plenty of my own oil changes starting in the early 70's when I began driving.
