I got a brand new one in the exact color/trim I wanted for 25k, so used was totally not worth it.. plus I have a 1-2 year newer model, redesigned features for the 2017 model year, 20k fewer miles for just 2-3k more.
In that case I would have bought new as well.

I generally buy new but have bought a couple used here and there. My last purchase was used - but it's very deal-specific on which way to go. I've bought new most of the time largely because I am picky with my specs and want it my way with no compromises.

I have bought used but I tend to keep my cars for a long time, 10 plus years, so I like to buy new to be sure all the proper maintenance is done. I really like hitting the dealer leftovers, like my latest purchase last June. Picked up new 2015 Taurus SEL with all the toys and 7 miles on the clock that listed for $33,650 and got it out the door for $25,000. I'm happy with the deal and the car has been great.

I buy only new, maintain them well, and keep them for 8 to 10 years. Bought a new Ford Explorer 4 month ago. Very happy with it. Prior vehicle was Ford Escape, 12 years old with 135K on it.

For my wife I just buy new. This last one was used but it is only a interim vehicle. I planned on 2 maybe 3 years of ownership. I can still sell it for basically what I got into it.
The next car is going to be new. Haven't really researched yet but we're preparing for a future purchase. I doubt we would keep the current vehicle even though it's been a great running car.

For me I usually buy used although I'm pretty set with the trucks I have now. I may sell or trade one to get something else. I have a diesel I don't drive much I'm thinking of trading for a Lightning.

Other than my very first car, a 1970 Triumph Spitfire (POS), every car I've bought was brand new, until lately. I discovered Certified Pre-Owned and I'll never go back to new. I saved $ 26,000 on a 2 year old Porsche with 9,000 miles on it and I saved $35,000 on a 2 year old Lexus LS 460 with 19,000 miles. Both were like brand new. That being said, in the OP's case I would have probably bought new too. Some cars don't depreciate very quickly. I remember hearing that the Jeep Wrangler is like that.

I bought my 05 gto and 15 camaro new. It didn't make sense to do so but I did. Rest of my cars and trucks have been used. Seems like anymore you can find some pretty good discounts and incentive on new vehicles.

I've done both new and used. New is great if the vehicle is slow to depreciate and/or hard to find--if you have to have a particular option level, it may be either costly on the used market, trashed already or just hard to find. Used can be great if the vehicle in question depreciates quickly. It also means someone else gets to determine if there are any weak spots on the model--if you wait a couple of model years in, problem areas get identified.

I'm not sure how I'll go next time. Depends upon how much I have to spend, and want to spend, next time. And how much aggravation I'm willing to put up with (last used car needed tires and a timing belt, all fluids, and I did struts too--but overall it appears to have been a good bargain, hitting a nice low TCO & cost/mile).

I bought one used car and two new cars. I will probably only buy brand new cars, or nearly new cars(low mileage,1 year old with warranty).

The market for used cars is very tricky these days. You often end up wasting more money and time than saving from buying a used car.

I guess that depends on your definition of used. Are we talking CPO vehicles with only a couple thousand miles or a 5 year old car with 50k miles? There's a huge difference there. If you buy right, a used vehicle can be much cheaper than new and just as reliable.

I traded in my brand new truck earlier this year for a 12 year old SUV with 123K miles on it. Not only is it saving me money each month but it is fully depreciated and I could sell it tomorrow for more than I bought it for. Plus, its more enjoyable to drive.
