We are buying a 25 foot trailer, with bare weight of 5200 pounds, and loaded it will probably be about 6200 pounds. We will get an anti-sway trailer hitch package. We are looking to buy an SUV that will be able to pull it, sometimes going through the mountain passes on I-5 in Oregon. For various reasons we do not want a pickup. We are probably looking at a used model SUV with no more than 50,000 miles on it. Any recommendations on SUVs, with emphasis on ability to pull that weight safely, without getting blown off the road. Thanks.
That is a big trailer for an SUV. VW Touareg and Audi Q7 will tow and stop 7716lb trailer quite easily.
With anti sway and load distribution, you may be OK.
For that kind of weight I'd go with something that has 9000 or 10,000 lb tow capacity. You don't want to max out your tow capacity, especially if you're going on mountain roads. Most people will use 50 to 75 percent of their tow capacity, depending on their particular situation.

yeah... get an evil TDI!!! (Audi, Porsche, or VW) (especially if towing at altitude or in Mtns)
Performance (torque) + handling / and great economy.
Yup, pretty Heavy towing for an SUV... Great Brakes are a MUST.
