I found the manual transmission on these to have an imprecise feel when changing gears. Just felt rubbery when compared to others I have driven over the past 40 years. It was a big deterrent for me.

I would call it a hatchback like the Toyota Celica was, just higher ff the ground.

A Celica was, ostensibly, a sporty coupe - not a hatchback. The Celica and the HR-V couldn't be more different. The Matrix would have been the more comparable Toyota.
