Already decided that if I did get a Versa, it would indeed be a manual tranny.

The KIA Soul should be on that list. Not that its "cheap" but it is a bargain considering its actually a pretty well made and well designed car. The Smart For 2? That's on the other end of the spectrum, pricey for what you get and its not very practical. Same goes for the Chevy Spark. I'd put the Soul in the class of the Sonic, Yaris, Rio Accent and Fit.
I've had one for 3 years now next month and its been problem free and is holding up very well.

I also have a Kia Soul - it's a 2011 base model Soul in white and 5-speed stick transmission. The car has held up well and I can tell it's made well. Fun to drive - a little underpowered, but I prefer small 4-cyl. cars.

do you have ANY idea of what one can buy for 13-15K.....used? If one bothered to look, they would see there are FAR superior used vehicles in that price range than there are for any of these new.

Why?

Well, a used Accord or Camry 4 cylinder anything with say, 50-70K miles will go further than any of these over time with less grief and a much smoother, quieter and competent ride....best of all, ditch any of these used gems 10 years hence and you will STILL Recoup 3-4K when finished.....

These are probably best suited for someone who drives VERY little in a small town and all they truly need is very basic transportation and even THEN I would say my point is still a better option for them.....Christ, a corolla or civic used would be better....probably save a few grand on top....

I almost bought one. My wife convinced me otherwise. Zero sound deadner, and an all black interior. I could get over the cheapness but the buzz on the highway... no thanks. So glad she talked sense into me. Wound up with a '99 Camry which, other than the automatic, I seem to enjoy more (and even have cruise control!).
