No. They do nothing but cost you money. I had a 96 SS (bought new) and frequented all of the Impala SS sites. Anybody who dynoed their car reported absolutely no change with the airfoil. I'm surprised they still sell those things. One of the Chevy magazines also said the same thing.

Stick with the air intake and go with a freer flowing (and better sounding IMO) exhaust.

There was a thread not too long ago about similar issues with similar products.

IMO, K&N and similar products are just a scam. Sure, they look pretty inside the engine bay, but they don't do any miracles as they advertise.

At least that has been my experience

About the smell inside the vehicle: Put your OE filter back and see. If the smells disappears, then get rid of the K&N crap.
