WALKER COUNTY, Ga. – A Georgia woman is speaking out to help others avoid the gruesome injuries she suffered after the car she was in crashed – while her feet were on the dashboard.

Audra Tatum of Walker County, Georgia, said her husband always warned her about sitting with her feet like that. But, she didn’t listen to him until they got into a car accident a couple of years ago.

Why would you have to warn people not to put their feet on the dashboard of a car?

I guess the same reason there are warnings on Bleach bottles not to ingest the liquid.

The gene pool needs more chlorine.

Sometimes I swear it's being done to impress people in nearby vehicles in traffic. Like when the boss puts their feet up on their office desk. In warmer weather I've seen passengers even stick their foot out the window/over the support of the side view mirror!

It's as much showing off as it is done for comfort.

It drives me nuts when women do that. I rarely see guys do it. I always have to remind women, "you know you're resting your feet on an explosive...and it's probably made by Takata."

Around 2010 women also officially surpassed men as the majority of adult smokers in the U.S. Notice a pattern?

Same reason I put my feet on my desk. I like my feet up. Passengers on long drives will try to find relaxing positions.

Rule in MY car. You don't put your feet on my dashboard. You don't place your feet out the window. You will always wear the seat belt. You will not throw garbage out of the window.

Tell that to the EMTs and Fire crew who need to use a jaws of life to extract pieces of the dashboard and airbag hardware from your rectum.

If they need to use the jaws of life to open someone's rectum, I think I'd rather be dead!!

Seriously, though, I never understood people putting their feet up or out the window in a car. I've only seen girls and young women do it. It looks as uncomfortable as it is dangerous. And who the hell wants to see someone else's feet?!?

Think about that every time I see it.
Also, once drivers were taught to hold the wheel at the 10:00 and 2:00 positions. Because of the airbags the safety trainers now recommend 8:00 and 4:00. Otherwise when the bag goes off your arms will be driven into the A-pillar and the Mirror or windshield. Usual result will be fractures of both bones in your lower arm, or bad wrist trauma. Either will be life changing injuries.
