So far, I love it! Yes, its 3 yrs old, but it only has 23k miles, was my favorite color combo (black exterior, tan interior), and came pretty much loaded with everything except blind spot monitoring & lane-keep assist.
It has nav, bluetooth, BMW Connect, heads-up display, keyless entry & start, pano sunroof, heated seats, etc etc.
I looked at virtually every vehicle in the X3's class, and almost bought a Lexus NX, but it didn't make my heart go pitter-patter like the X3
Are there any "bugs" to be on the lookout for in a 2014 X3? Any suggestions? I did not purchase the extended warranty or a prepaid maintenance package. Would you recommend doing this before my warranty & maintenance plan run out, or take my chances?
If you are "mechanical" and willing to do some work, things should be great; but if not, seriously consider trading or selling it between warranty completion and 100K miles.

Yes buy warranty when BMW hit 50k-60k you in big trouble
OP, you should find a dedicated bmw enthusiast website to ask these questions. And maybe join the BMWCCA. And definitely research indie bmw shops in your area (for when the warranty runs out); yelp can be good for that.
My guess is that people here telling you to: sell it!--before 50K miles, are dedicated bmw bashers, who likely know very little about bmw's, let alone the X3 in particular.
There are many BMW forums which provide valuable information. The F25 X3 is a great vehicle. The only issue I have heard of is the plastic timing chain guides may fail on the 4 cylinder (N20) engines built before March 2013. BMW corrected the problem on the newer 4 cylinder models. Overall a great vehicle.

People here on City Data are ridiculous sometimes. The X3 can easily last well over 100k miles. That being said, you need to keep up with the maintenance and it will not be cheap, compared to Toyota, Honda, Lexus, Acura, etc. It's not going to have major parts failures after 50k.
You need to be asking about common issues on a search for BMW forums on google.
