"Maui No Ka Oi" is a popular Hawaiian saying that means Maui is the best. Mike Sweeney recently moved to this idyllic island from Denver and was hit with the other side of living in paradise with his first visit to the gas pump: Maui is also No. 1 in gas prices.
Well, you definitely have to pay for the privilege of living in Hawaii. No surprises there. I'd actually think gas might be more expensive on an isolated island like that.
My husband told me about that yesterday, but being we are from New York (Moving to Maui in a few months), that is pretty much what you would pay in Manhattan, but it still sucks

Wow, I stand corrected. I just checked out some of the prices (the highest I saw was $3.79) and Hawaii is more expensive. When the time is right, we will be buying a "fuel efficient car" for sure!!
i was just at the pump yesterday, its over 4.00. i live on the westside of the island, near lahaina, that probably explains it though. more tourists, so they get you!
