Between where I live and where I work (~25 miles), $0.40-0.50 difference per gallon is common during periods of price fluctuations. During the reverberation period of these past 2 hurricanes, it was $0.45 different within 5 miles. That's when apps like this are valuable. It takes a grand total of 5 seconds to check, so why wouldn't I?

I know the gas stations in my neighborhood where I buy 99% of the gas for my car and pretty much know the prices around town so would not even bother to look up pricing on my phone. When traveling, I stop when I need gas and usually there is 2 or 3 stations to choose from and my choice is more or less based on the other conveniences not the price of gas which from what I can tell is about a penny or 2 per gallon.

Am I missing something here? Is gas buddy something I shouldn't be over looking?
It's usually just helpful for me when I'm traveling, to know of the locations where gas prices are a little lower. I did find a Maryland gas station (I'm in PA) with that site that's like a 7 min excursion to/from work where the prices are generally 10-30 cents lower. That's been a help!

If your route rarely changes, you probably don't need help locating gas stations or comparing prices.

If you travel different places, or even find yourself in different areas of a large metroplex, getting directions to the nearest station with a decent price is not a bad thing.

Based on replies, people who don't use Gas Buddy think that people use it while on the road to save a penny or two while going out of their way. That's not how I use Gas Buddy.

I look at the prices in Gas Buddy when I'm not driving and often a pattern emerges on prices. There are 1 or 2 gas stations that are consistently cheaper than others on my regular route. I would go fill up on those stations when I need gas. If I know my gas is getting low and I have a trip planned out of my regular route, I would check prices in the area. If that area is significantly cheaper I fill up once I get there.

No, not going to waste my time to save some pennies. I know people who will even drive to a different state to buy gas, all while burning even more gas just to get there for their 75 cents of savings

For over a year I have been RVing all over the west....over 22,000 miles. My Truck gets 9 to 10 mpg towing and I normally fill up with 20 to 22 gallons. The difference between stopping at this exit or that exit might be 40 or 50 cents. Saving me around $5 per tank. On a day I am traveling 400 too 600 miles that is 3 tanks of fuel.

It is interesting to see how the first gas station as you roll into town is the most expensive or the gas station by the off ramp is the most expensive.

Heck yeah I use Gasbuddy!

Post like mine make the internet an authentic place.

I have zero interest in driving clear across town to save a few bucks. If saving a few bucks on gas is going to make a person's budget they typically have bigger problems or a Gordon Ramsey would say they're trying to urinate on a bonfire.
