If GM is going all electric why are they considering getting rid of the volt. They added a third shift their assembly plant in Arlington Tx. Were they make their full size suburban, and Yukon, and Escalade. This story is so full of BS.
The are discontinuing the Volt because it's a sedan, not because it's electric (which it isn't, it's a hybrid.) The next iteration of the Volt hybrid technology will be found in a CUV as that is where the market is going. As for the Cadillac hybrid, it was too expensive for what it offered.
Again, it's not going to happen overnight. As the technology improves over the next 25-30 years, battery operated vehicles, including trucks, will become the norm. And the infrastructure to support them will grow along with it.
France and the UK have announced some sort of "ban" on gas and diesel cars by 2040. China has announced the same without a date.
Gasoline vehicles are being phased out, and every manufacturer will be electric only "at some point", not just GM. No one know the timetable, but as a wild guess you can probably target 2050-2060 or so.
France is already working on replacement for gasoline taxes, and as their electric is mostly nuclear, they are probably in the best shape to make this happen.
I want to know how many chargers will be needed in parking lots if everyone drove an all electric vehicle, how long to install let’s say charging stations at the mall of America were every parking space will have a free charger.

If the Illuminati release Nicola Tesla's blueprints for "free energy", we can all charge while parked anywhere

I know how much they cost. We're having two, a single stand pair, installed. The cost is $13K for the unit. We're getting "a deal" because we're getting an electric vehicle from the same company. There is also a $5K grant attached to the chargers so net is $8K.
Although GM has made good progress in the electric car department. Trucks won't be electric for a while. I had a Volt for 3 year lease. It was a good car but too claustrophobic for me. Great concept though.
Reuss did not give a date for the death knell of the GM gas- or diesel-powered car, saying the transition will happen at different speeds in different markets and regions.
In other words it's not going to happen in our lifetimes, especially for trucks.
No one has given a good explanation on how people who park in garages or park on the street overnight will charge their cars. It still takes a long time to charge a car and many of them do not have good range. This needs to solved before any large scale transition.

You still need diseal and gasoline power earth moving equipment to put chargers in so really diseal and gasoline will always be used. And what about all the lawn and snow removal equipment used today, battery operated equipment can’t do what gasoline powered equipment can do and sustain continual usage like a gas powered lawnmower. You can’t make a living if you’re in the landscape business, same as a taxi driver who has to keep going to make a living you think an all electric vehicle will work, the ice will be around for ever.
