I drive 60-70 miles per day to work, mostly all highway miles, maybe 10 miles of that would be stop and go or traffic lights. Relatively decent roads in SC/NC and VA. I've always wanted to own a performance oriented sedan and wondering which one would you guys recommend to buy new. I like car with a good engine and exhaust note. I'm not interested in leasing. I would keep the car at least until 7 years old or 150k miles or more. I understand that servicing and maintenance will be very important for most of these models.
I'm leaning more towards the Audi S4, since Audi has improved the reliability recently, the new V6 turbo engine is great and has a good exhaust note and the shape is good also? I think the Mercedes C43 has the best exhaust sounds, but the shape of the C-class is too curvy for me. I'm not too sure about a BMW 340i, since their reliability seems to be slacking recently. The more reliable side of me has me looking at a Lexus IS350, but the Lexus and Acura models seem too boring.
Any thoughts or experiences?
Dodge Charger Hellcat. It has ridiculous power, the best sounding engine on the planet, is very comfortable, and has all the luxuries you could want. I have one and it's phenomenal....as a previous 7 series owner, the HC blows BMW, Audi & Mercedes away in performance, sound and bad attitude. Also, when you are cruising on the hghway, the HC is quiet and gets 22 mpg.
Great cars mentioned here, I had brief experiences with Audi and Cadillac sport sedans that convinced me that I want one but on a more modest budget. I think the coming Kia Stinger may fit the bill.
Many people are considering a Jaguar XE S with the 380hp Supercharged engine. How are recent Jaguars in terms of quality and reliability - I've heard they've gotten much better recently and are decent. I know the dark times of Jaguar was the early 2000s and the X-type era.
Had a 2010 S4 (w/ APR Tune & other mods) and have a 2016 BMW 340i MSport w/ Track currently. Have driven the current S4 with the 3.0 Turbo engine extensively as well. Love all three of them. Think the 2010 S4 was the best looking (and mine was easily the fastest of the 3 due to the mods), the BMW has the best all around performance on or off a track, and the current S4 is plenty fast but beats the 340i in every aspect of technology. A bit lacking in driving enjoyment compared to the 340i and B8(.5) S4. My 340i has been completely trouble free, but I can't speak to high mileage on one. You'll want an extended warranty no matter what route you go, Audi or BMW. My 340i easily gets 24-25mpg in a very traffic intense commute. Highway is 30-32 at 75ish mpg average speeds. Best I could get out of the current S4 is about 22 city, and 28 highway.
Best ROI for performance is a used BMW 335d with tune 2+ (remove filters and urea & reprogram computer) turns into into a monster = 550 lbFt torque & 500 HP
This tuned car with its humongous torque shames many much more expensive sports cars on track (see youtube, etc).
Just drive them. Don't pick a car until you have some time in the seat.
