that's what I did, used some extra thick foam insulation and gorilla taped it to the side. If I have a passenger, I back the car out first

That is what I did with my daughter's Malibu. She paid for garage parking in one of the worst Philadelphia winters and I was glad the car was there. However, she kissed the left rear side of the car with a pillar. Fortunately, she didn't scratch the car paint so I was able to take some compound and get the yellow marks off. Now, you can't tell .
