If they want to get cars through intersections quicker, they need to deal with the drivers that are sitting there texting or playing with their phones for 20-30 additional seconds after the light turns green.

25 feet?? That's just the inviting some bozo to cut in line by wedging into that space.

Have you never known the frustration of having to sit through a full red light just to turn into a parking lot because the car in front of you wouldn't pull up another 5 feet and give you the room to squeeze by?
this, this, this!!!!

here is another issue for research, how about doing a study as to why running a red light, especially in heavy traffic, would be a bad thing.

We were taught in Drivers Ed (I'm old) to pull up close but still be able to see where the rear tires meet the road on the vehicle in front of you. That seems about right to me - maybe just because that's what I've always done unless I'm blocking a turn lane then I'll move up closer if it clears that lane.

One hopes you check first to make sure that they aren't leaving that space open for people to turn into a driveway if need be so as not to cause a traffic backup in the oncoming lanes.

Average length of a car (which means there are some that are over this) is about 14 feet. So 25 feet is a little over a car length and a half. That's not far at all and anyone who would try to shoehorn into that is an idiot.
