I remember years ago I used to go to these types of places regularly to change my oil.

Now I have a favorite local automotive place that has been taking care of my car for over six years now.

Funny how they do address how many times the old oil filter
gasket was left on the block

They had to make up the cost somewhere

I wanted to read the entire article, but the barrage of advertisements are beyond my tolerance.

I had a friend who bought a major oil change franchise. He knew, and was told by the franchise seller, that there was no money to be made in oil/filter change alone. You had to do the up-sell.

Right or wrong, it is the business model. Now do some abuse it? Of course they do.

My wife was at a quick lube place and another driver placed away and then stopped the car because the engine was making a horrible sound.

They forgot to replace the oil that they drained.

Obviously, we don't go to any quick lube place again.

I'd like to know how many or what percentage of drain plugs are stripped, cross threaded, over torqued that cause the oil pan to be replaced that you only find out at the next oil change.

If it was as bad as the anecdotal stories put forth on the internet, these large successful chains would have been out of business a long time ago.

I had a similar experience at a different place (not the business name mentioned by the OP) and had a similar experience about hearing how I needed to pay for them to perform all these flushes, which seemed unnecessary.

I'm surprised I wasn't told that I needed a windshield wiper fluid flush every 500 miles or my wipers would get dryrot and stop working.

The key to there types of places is to know what exactly is in your owners manual, otherwise you’ll end up doing $200 worth of flushes every oil change.

The other thing you should do is throw away their oil change reminder sticker. It’ll say 3000 miles no matter what your owner’s manual says.

Never took any of my vehicles to a quick lube unless it was at the dealer quick lube like Ford or GM or Dodge, I’ve always made it a point to have everything that was done on my vehicles documented on dealers computer Incase anything did happen. I was not foolish enough to trust my vehicles to a high school auto shop student to try to save a penny.
