I'm going for a test drive on Thursday. So excited. I've been doing a bunch of reading and, for ice, it's the X-Mode that's going to be amazing. This is awesome:
Subarus are slow to depreciate because demand exceeds supply- factory space limits their production runs, and the parent company doesn't want to spend mass quantities of yen to build a new factory until they're sure the sales gains of the past ten years are not just a fad. The new Legacy we bought in 2016 was within $100 of the used 2015 Legacy the dealer had on the same lot and the new one was a higher trim level- dealership was willing to give us invoice price on the new Legacy (Indiana apparently plays vehicle allocation cage match with their dealers, and the place we bought from wanted to keep their supply of easy to sell Outbacks coming in on every truck) but would not budge on the used one at all.
The last few years, Subarus will typically spend weeks less on a dealer lot than other manufacturer's models. If you don't want to pay close to MSRP, the next potential buyer to come along probably will.
this is true. Brands like Subaru and Toyota(especially Toyota trucks) hold their value so well that if a person is looking at buying new vs 1-2 years old, prices are so close, that person is better off buying new most of the time.
So you are buying a great snow car for a region with a lot of snow and take delivery after winter. Sorry that's ironic to me. But you made a good choice, enjoy.

I know, right?!? I'm an enigma. That's what everyone was saying, too. My logic was that for the first day/week/month, I wanted nice weather (with no snow and ice and salt) to enjoy the new car.

If you want nice weather in late March you may want to consider taking delivery in Atlanta.

Haha! So true, Dave! It'll kill me to let it sit at the dealer until the snow is gone in April, but I'll do that if I have to. Or, um, I'll TRY to do that. It'll be hardest when I know that it's there just waiting for me.
I have x-mode on my Forester. Its called a Manual transmission. And my x-mode operates at all speeds not just below 18mph, so I can get these benefits going down a mountain at 35 mph, along with having my VDC, traction control, and ABS working.
Xmode is mah braanne.
