A winter storm is expected to dump snow and ice along the East Coast, turning into a 'bomb cyclone' in New England. As temperatures continue to drop, here are some things you shouldn't leave in your car:

Most of those are common sense but we all know people these days lack that. Good list.

I'm not sure why anyone would leave any of those things in the car anyway, other than maybe a partial container of soda that you had been drinking while driving or maybe some aspirin or antibiotic ointment in an emergency kit.

But... it is OK to leave the 'left-overs' from the potluck in your car (if you don't have room in the fridge (or the power is out anyway...)!)

Absolutely. My great aunt used to use her old ice box as a freezer in the winter up in the hills. It was on the back porch. Why not a car trunk?

Laundry detergent. I keep a bottle on the floor in the back seat, since I have to go to a laundromat to do my wash. It was slushified after over a week of sub-freezing weather. I brought it in to work last Thursday to thaw it out because I had to do wash that night.

Yes, it's sitting on the floor in my kitchen right now. It's -6 right now, and we won't get above freezing until the end of next week.

In winter, we call the garage "the big refrigerator". Meat gets kept out there for a couple of nights and big pots of dog food get set out there to cool. The Christmas fudge goes out there to set.

I'll take stuff out of the car and set it on top of the freezer and leave it there to keep it cold. The garage never actually freezes. Stuff that needs to freeze has to go outside. If it is food outside, it needs to be protected from the racoons. Under the smoker lid on the barbecue is a good place to put food outside to freeze.

Article points out that you should not leave loved ones in a car in subzero weather.

Good to know.

Sadly some of those points in that article will be news to them. The question is will they remember it?

On the opposite side of the thermometer who doesn't know that a car can get really hot under the Summer sun but how many idiots every year still leave their dog in there to roast?

Yep, I left a 3 liter bottle of soda in a car once in central NY. Luckily I discovered it before the thaw. Shop vac.
