Has anyone ever tried this new Car Subscription Service some manufacturers offer for their high-end vehicles? It seems to be a new alternative for a "lease" and financing. Looking for thoughts and experiences.

Please no "You are stupid if you lease/finance and should ONLY pay cash for any vehicle" replies. Thanks.

Car subscriptions: Ford, Volvo, Porsche, and Cadillac offer lease alternative

I'm trying to figure out how it would be better then just renting a car for the time you need it.
At least for a rental, you can rent it for a shorter period of time rather than having to subscribe for $600 for a whole month.

Neat, I thought it was going to be like one of those car-sharing apps.

I do see this filling a niche. People in an area short term, people needing a car but moving somewhere and wanting to get established before hassling with it, and even on CD you see people asking about short term leases or long term rentals.

Sounds like something that would be popular for people who like a new car as often as they get a new cell phone. Do a 24 month subscription, but then upgrade the vehicle after 12 months. No being locked in for longer periods of time. Also no hassle in having to shop around for insurance, etc.

Sounds like they are just expanding the typical short term business use model to the average consumer.

"Looking at costs over the long run, it’s likely the carmakers who will win out in the end"

Gee, do you really think so? It was their idea, right?

When sales decline in large part due to the car sharing and Uber/Lyft services, they have to come up with a way to get some money out of those people that don't want/need to buy or lease a car for their exclusive use. Unlike those of us that love cars and driving, may people today think of driving as a chore, and it interferes with their use of social media. For them this offers a car for as little as a month, for a vacation, or until they can move closer to a new job, and it includes insurance which can be very expensive for someone buying it for the first time.

The Porsche subscription starts at $2k per month for lower end basic cars, $3k to get basic and mid grade 911 and Panamera. I guess if you rented a Panamera or 911 for a month on Turo, it would cost way more then $3k.
